The freshest raspberries for miles around will be at our market this week! Jerry Bargeman, owner of Jerry's Berries and family farm for over 30 year, will be joining us with his just off the raspberry cane pickings! Jerry's Berries is located in Copetown, just west of Dundas Ontario in the vicinity of Hamilton. This family farm, in operation for over 30 years, provides fresh picked ever-bering raspberries to lucky market shoppers as well as u-pick on the farm! In the spring, you might remember seeing Jerry at our market with gorgeous hosta plants from their other business LotsaHostas. The Bargeman family is also on the organizing committee of Farm Crawl Hamilton a unique event that showcases farms in the Hamilton region with guest chefs, tours and on-the-farm educational activities. The next farm crawl is coming up soon on July 19th.
Come to the market this Wednesday, visit with Jerry and learn about his wonderful farm. Pick-up some overbearing raspberries to eat fresh, freeze or preserve. Keep in mind that raspberries are only in season for a short time - so don't miss out!
Back by popular demand and just in time for summer reading. We love the book swap because...well...we love books! But it's more than that. It supports our goal of sustainability by encouraging folks to share and re-use, and our goal of being a community hub ~ a place for sharing and connecting. We hope to see lots of cookbooks for culinary inspiration!
How does it work? Bring a book, take a book. We also sell books, with all proceeds going back to market operations.
What are some of your favourite seasonal, farmers' market inspired cookbooks? Drop us a line in the comments below to share :)
We know the farmers' market is a place of awesomeness, of community, of learning, eduction, networking, picnicking, music and play. BUT most importantly, it's about giving our local growers and producers all the support they need to keep doing with they are doing! So...get those baskets and SHOP!
Stop by the market info booth to show off your snazziest, greenest, chicest, most cleverly packed market baskets to be entered in a draw for one of five $20.00 market buck gifts.
