In our most humble opinion, and lots and lots of practice, we've cracked the code on one of life's most beautiful recipes, drum roll please, the recipe on how to throw a fantastic party! Yep! We've solved it! No candy coating, all transparent details aside, it's been decades of trial and error, just like perfecting a recipe, sometimes delicious, sometimes you have to throw out batch after batch and call it a night. So without further delay, here's our tried and true ingredient list:
2. Homemade food, throw in some nostalgic dishes i.e. spinach dip in a rye bread shell or even try the old classic cheese or chocolate fondue.
3. To keep host/hostess stress in check ask people to contribute to meal and/or don't be afraid to cater a portion of the food.
4. Background music, low-ish, nobody enjoys too close for comfort conversations.
5. Keep it all-ages AKA family-friendly.
Truth be told, we're not the only ones in the know on how to host a classic great party, cue the entrance music for another local group that has figured out the perfect recipe, it's none other than the fantastic neighbourhood association just north of us, the Beach Hill Neighbourhood Association. This bunch put on potlucks, baking contests, AGMs, and an arms length list of other not-to-be-missed community building events using the above mentioned ingredients. If you're already a member, wonderful, if you're not, get on board, here, here or here!
If you're looking for a fantastically delicious, uber-local, neighbourly fiesta-ish, shindig-ish, jamboree-ish family-friendly, life enhancing event, join us at Beach Hill Neighbourhood Association's Fall Fete Potluck this coming Saturday October 4.
Bushel Basket Bonanza a Success!
Special thanks to Fred Franzen who hosted a mural design station for our community. Many people stopped by to learn about the art of the mural and to meet our local treasure Fred!
Special thanks to Leslie Songer-Terry who drove all the way down from Muskoka to join us at the market. Her baskets were stunning and the demonstrations had people hooked! Stay tuned for some local basket making workshops from Leslie!
Youth Art Bushels: It was a flurry of activity THE WHOLE MARKET at Andrew Duff's kids' bushel station! The kids loved getting their hands on the spray paint donated by Above Ground Art Supplies and as the market progressed the bushels evolved into precious works of collective art.
These bushels will be on display October 1st and October 8th and will be raffled off on October 15th.

Pitchfork School - Workshop
Introduction to Fermentation and Sauerkraut
Fermented foods are an original slow food. You can’t hurry fermentation, or create those flavours any other way. Traditional food prep methods from many cultures include some sort of fermented food; grains, dairy, meat, legumes, vegetables, condiments and beverages can all be fermented. Learn the basics of lacto-fermentation as a preservation method for vegetables, and build flavours in your preserves without heat, vinegar, or additives. Taste a wide range of vegetable ferments including sauerkraut and variations, kimchi, brined vegetables and several condiments, all made with local, seasonal, and organic produce. We’ll make at least one ferment in class that you will take with you to ferment and eat at home.
Next Pitchfork School Workshop - Apple Pie in a Jar - originally scheduled on October 8th will now be held on October 15th.
