A few bushels of tomatoes were purchased by some regulars last week which marked the beginning of sharing and a little boasting about what we are doing to cherish our produce over the winter. We are freezing, saucing, canning, putting up - whatever you want to call it!
Talk to the farmers this week - see what you can order by the bushel and how they are keeping it over the winter. Send us pics and tips for stocking up and we will share with our market world.
Here is what we have been doing with our tomatoes.
ENORMOUS thank yous to the Ice Masters for agreeing to roast corn and sharing their contagious smiles & heart felt love for this community; ENORMOUS thank yous to Nicki, Zach, Le Eiko, and Michelle for awesome volunteer support; ENORMOUS thank yous to every single one of you and your children who shopped, ate, and danced (in the rain) at the market; ENORMOUS thank yous to farmer-musician Tony Neale / Wheelbarrow Farm for singing and playing guitar, and Corry for singing and playing tambourine, and saxophonist/composer Gabrielle Poole-Fournier, and Mark from The Backyard Urban Farm Company ~ who didn't play, but he was supposed to, but stuff came up, and Bix Bakery's Cindy who didn't play, but was supposed to but we got a bit disorganized/worried about the rain "issues", and Stan Endersby who sang and played guitar and told great rock & roll stories; ENORMOUS thanks to artist Karen Franzen for donating two gorgeous pieces of pottery for the door prizes; and ENORMOUS thanks to the farmers and vendors who are saintly in their UNWAVERING commitment to bring us food, rain or shine. RAIN OR SHINE.
Our market thrives because of those of you that come rain or shine, umbrellas in hand, just in case, because you want to eat, and feed your families, good whole food, rain or shine, from farmers and vendors you chat with, rain or shine. We are so honoured to be part of this community. Thank you for an unforgettable corn roast! xo
